Their Eyes Were Watching God

205 pages
I know the name of the blog is Harry Potter, but we read Their Eyes were watching God, and it was actually not bad. It is written by Zora Neale Hurston, and was released in 1937. It is about an African American woman called Janie Crawford, and her journey through her adult life. It starts of with her grandmother that marries her away, because she wants someone to take care of her. This man is called Logan, but she doesn't love him, and love is really important to Janie in this story. She eventually meets a man called Joe Starks that wants to travel to a new town, but he needs a good looking wife. Janie fits that description perfectly, and she decides after a few weeks that she wants to go away with him.

Joe becomes the mayor of the new town, and life seem good for a moment. But eventually, Janie starts to dislike the way that Joe treats her. He demands her to wear a head rag to keep her hair up, and even gives her a spitting pot. Joe also ends up dying, and Janie once again wants to find love, but actually love finds her. Tea Cake walks into her store, and she feels right away that he might be the one. It turns out he is, and they live happily around the country, until the hurricanes comes, which leads to Tea Cake getting rabies. In the end Janie kills him before he can kill her. When she looks back at her life she is happy and feels that she lived a good one.
